(Sorry this meta is about six months out of date. I started it right after the TLJ novel came out, when it would have been relevant, but…here we are.)
Since TFA, I’ve wondered what makes Snoke distinct as a Star Wars villain. I was hoping he’d get interesting in TLJ, but instead he died. So like, what did he want, besides “to rule the galaxy” like literally every other villain? Cuz that would be boring.
Here’s my theory: Snoke was trying to lock the dark and light sides into permanent conflict so he could become the last and only Force-user in the galaxy.
“You are a monster,” Rey said, remembering the terror of her paralysis on Takodana. She stared back at him and found his eyes full of hurt. Hurt, and conflict. “Yes, I am,” Kylo said, and there was no menace in his voice – only misery.
It seems like Snoke kept Kylo pretty isolated for the last three years and then he tries to tell us that he *created* the bond between Rey and Kylo (Ben).
Yeah right, lol, Ben made one close friend and then killed him. You’re telling me that Snoke willingly let the person he emotionally isolated and traumatized have a friend….somehow not considering the ramifications of Ben Solo Empathy Nerd having a friend.
I still believe either he increased the bond, or he purposefully said that to hurt Rey and Kylo.
Wait… What happened three years ago? And who was his close friend?
I say three years because the Phasma novel (which takes place approx three years prior to TFA) mentions Kylo going to First Order meetings on behalf of Snoke, but no mentions of the Knights of Ren. By this point I assume they are either in exile or like ???? they ain’t there.
I mean Kylo made a friend in Rey and then killed Snoke…..it was early when I made this post, lol. My grammar is all over the place; I’m sorry.
Also, turns out its kind of easy to have Kylo Ben empathize. All you gotta do is physically or mentally impress him and then be nice to him for five seconds.
